About this project

Helioradar AV is an experiment in data sonification.
We act as a bridge between raw satellite telemetry and human perception.

Processing the raw data stream from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, this engine synthesizes an infinite, non-looping ambient soundscape.
Every fluctuation in the solar wind and every shift in the magnetic field is instantly converted into sound and light.

  • Real-Time: Zero latency data stream.
  • Generative: No pre-recorded tracks. The music is composed by the Sun.
  • Scientific: Built on actual geophysical parameters (Kp, Bz, Flow).

Initial release of the Helioradar Audio-Visual Engine. Establishing a direct bridge between solar physics and digital art via real-time sonification.

  • Real-Time Data Pipeline: Integrated WebSocket connection with NOAA SWPC for sub-minute latency. Directly streams Solar Wind Speed and Kp Index to the client.
  • Audio Synthesis Core (DSP): Deployed a browser-based generative synthesizer.
    • Harmonic Structure: Polyphonic sequencer locked to Am7add9 chord voicings for emotional resonance.
    • Frequency Range: Oscillators constrained to 55-247 Hz (Low-mid musical range) to prevent digital harshness.
  • Generative Modulation Matrix (Mappings):
    • Kp Index → Filter Cutoff: Geomagnetic fluctuations modulate the Low-Pass Filter (LPF), opening up spectral brightness during storms.
    • Solar Wind → Tempo: Wind velocity drives the master clock (BPM), shifting from ambient drones to rhythmic pulses.
    • Proton Density → Spatial FX: Particle density controls the Delay feedback and reverb tail, creating atmospheric depth.
  • Visuals: Launched WebGL particle system representing proton density flow with reactive motion blur.
  • Optimization: DSP load balancing for mobile devices to ensure smooth audio playback without glitches.
